Halls Creek Halls Creek is located 410km south of Kununurra and Wyndham. It's the site of Western Australia's first gold rush. It acts as the service town for the surrounding mines and pastoral areas. Here you'll find the Halls Creek Kimberley Hotel. Want to see an Australian ghost town? Just 16km out of town is Old Halls Creek. Once a lively town during the gold rush with a population of 3000 people, all that remains is the old post office and the foundations of a several other buildings. The natural phenomenon known as China Wall can be seen on the way out to Old Halls Creek and is a vertical wall of quartz half submerged in the ground to form a natural white stone wall, which looks like a miniature China Wall. The landmark of Halls Creek however, would have to be the Russian Jack Memorial. It's a bronze figure of a famous pioneer from the 1885 gold rush. Russian Jack carried a sick friend in a wheel barrow over 300km to seek medical aid. He was hailed a hero, and a good mate, hence the bronze statue. Halls Creek is the town closest to the Purnululu National Park with its astounding Bungle Bungle massif. Shopping Travelling to Halls Creek A coach service is operated by Greyhound.
